There are many things in life that I find relaxing just by looking at them–an empty beach, sleeping babies, and a lone swing hanging from a tree branch are a few. That last one may not be something that brings you a feeling of relaxation, but I think they are just a wonderful thing. So for Christmas I wanted to give one to the girls. It didn’t happen. We got all the stuff to make it and prepared it just fine…but we never found time on Christmas Eve to hang it. It would’ve been tough to do after they went to bed. In the dark. But I did spend a lot of time prepping it.
I cut and sanded an ugly piece of wood, which turned out to be absolutely beautiful and so smooth after I spent a lot of time sanding. And, you know what I discovered (because I spent a lot of time doing it for all the projects I worked on in December)? I LOVE SANDING! I used to hate it. I dreaded it if I was working on a wooden project. But it turns out that it is just another way to make something beautiful, which I am a big fan of doing, and in such a natural way.
This really is about something Scott made, although I’ve spent all this time so far discussing my part of the project. Scott got the materials ready and hung the swing just like you might think it should be hung. All the while, the girls couldn’t help but make each step an adventure. Kids are the best!
So he did a little internet research (as he usually does) on the best way to hang a tree swing and now it is the best tree swing ever! The girls love it. I love it. And every time I drive by our house and into the driveway I feel a little wave of relaxation and contentment come over me just at the sight of it hanging from the tree in our front yard. It’s the little things, ya know?
