The Transitional Family

Welcome to Whimsical Whimsies!

I set up this site as a fun way of sharing the many, many ways I like to outlet my creativity.  Most of the time I feel like I am just bursting with ideas, but don’t always have the time to do everything on my mental list.  From decorating to photography, I am always putting something together.

I believe in using what God gave us (our talents, what He has already provided for us, whether they be natural or things in our homes) and not in spending a lot of money on the new stuff that’s out there to decorate with,  to give as gifts, and to teach our children.  I think most of the time what we need is already in our homes!  We don’t have to buy new all the time, we just have to hunt for it and maybe make adjustments to our ideas to fit what we already have.  And, if you include patience in your search (Not easy!  I’ve reeeally had to focus on that part, since I usually want my project done before I start it.) you may find that your search goes much more smoothly.

Being creative is FUN!  We live in a society where everything is readily available, at a price of course, and consuming comes far before creating.  It is so important to teach our children the value of making things and using our talents and creativity to develop our own ideas–not to mention the incredible value of saving our money!

Not everyone has had the advantage of being raised and encouraged to develop our talents and creative sides.   EVERYONE has a creative side, even if you don’t know it yet.  I promise, it’s there.  It might not be a talent that your best friend has, but you were given something very special.  You just have to figure it out and get working on it!  Trust yourself and if you don’t know how to begin, just ask!

The Transitional Family

Much like the cotton, we are a family of soft sensibilities, light hearts, and a warm home-life, but we were rooted in a value that we no longer believed in. So, it was time for a change and, much like most people, we didn’t have the money to make it happen over night which brings us to now. We are reintroducing ourselves to Mother Nature one step at a time. Whether it be the clothes we wear or the food we eat, we are determined to start our children off right and make as many memories as possible in the meantime. Besides, they are the reason for any of this.

We invite you to enjoy with us the good, peaceful, happy, ecstatic, calm, loving, sweet, beautiful, wonderful and, yes, sometimes sad times with us on our journey back to nature.

Who’s that girl?

Welcome, my name is Christy.  We are a homeschooling family of six that practice living life naturally, simply, and filled with love. Join us as we go on adventures, make crafts, garden, spend time in the kitchen, build things, and enjoy the peaceful moments all around us.

Once my family and I decided to abandon the norm, my life has led me from one adventure to the next. Wife, mama, photographer, craft connoisseur are all titles I have held at one time or another. Me and my husband are always looking for ways to do things ourselves so that we know what is in almost everything we own. With that knowledge comes great deal of comfort, and we try to always have several things lined up to work on. I, in particular, love crafting! It has always been a passion of mine, and it is always something I find myself thinking about throughout the day. Amongst all that, my only hope for this blog is to positively impact other human beings if not, more specifically, show them that it is possible live a pure life in every since of the word. It won’t be easy or fast, but, in the end, it will be.

I believe it…and that’s all you need.

My day job?  Well, Mama is my main title right now, but I am also a photographer.  Check out this side of my creativity at www.PristineDesignsPhotography.com.

  1. I enjoyed my visit here and I agree with your beliefs and family values!

  2. Um…. I think I’m going to read your blog front to back now!
We are working towards the same things… living more simply, spend less money and more time together. I’m just opening my wings (and my brain) so I can’t wait to learn what your family has done so far! Love it!

    • Thank you, Gretchen! And let me know what great things you discover on your journey! I’m sure there are a bazillion things I haven’t discovered yet. I love how simple things become when we take out all of the unnecessary parts of our lives. It’s so refreshing! :)

  3. I’ve been trying to live with the motto “less is more” in the past few years of my life and ‘up-cycling’ as much as I can. Thanks for this reminder of what life is truly about. I love photography and crafting as well! :)

    • Thank you so much for reading! It’s easy to get lost in our society with the need for instant everything. But the slow steady DIY pace is so very wonderful! :)
